Apple made a wise move in this regard. Dropping $400 on the top wristwatch may be unsettling for those who have never had one before. The cheaper Series 3 may have been a “safer” option. However, keeping the Series 3 made less and less sense as time passed, especially once Apple released the Apple Watch SE in 2020. Furthermore, numerous Series 3 users experienced problems upgrading the aged wristwatch to watchOS 7 and watchOS 8.
