Apple has officially recognized and addressed the overheating issues reported by some iPhone 15 and 15 Pro users. The company attributed the problem to a combination of factors, including increased background activity, an iOS 17 bug, and third-party app-related issues. Apple assured users that it is actively working on solutions, with both a software update and fixes from app developers in the pipeline.
Background Activity and Initial Setup: Apple explained that during the initial setup or restoration of the iPhone, increased background activity can lead to the device feeling warmer than usual. This condition is temporary and typically resolves after a few days of use.
iOS 17 Bug: The company identified a bug within iOS 17 that is affecting some users and contributing to the overheating issue. Apple confirmed its commitment to addressing this bug through an upcoming software update.
Third-Party App Involvement: Certain third-party apps, including Uber, Instagram, and Asphalt 9, were pinpointed as contributing to the problem by overloading the system. Apple has been collaborating with these app developers to implement fixes, and updates with solutions are currently being rolled out.
Design and Hardware Clarifications: Apple clarified that the overheating issue is unrelated to the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro’s titanium frame design. In fact, the titanium frame is designed to enhance heat dissipation compared to previous models with stainless steel frames. The problem is also not directly related to the A17 Pro chip, and the forthcoming fix will not compromise device performance.
Charging and Safety: Apple assured users that the overheating problem is unrelated to high-power chargers, as the iPhone 15 is fully compliant with USB-C PD (Power Delivery) standards. The device includes built-in protection mechanisms to prevent damage from overheating, ensuring user safety.
