AMD is reportedly planning to launch FSR 3 (Frame Scaling with Fluid Motion Frames) in September 2023. This technology is AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and Frame Generation technology. FSR 3 is expected to be released alongside AMD’s RDNA 3 graphics cards.
FSR 3 with Fluid Motion Frames is AMD’s third-generation graphics scaling technology. It aims to enhance resolution and frame rates in games. Nvidia’s Frame Generation technology, used in its graphics cards, gives Nvidia an advantage in terms of resolution and gameplay fluidity. AMD is hoping that FSR 3 can compete with Nvidia’s technology.
Nvidia’s Frame Generation uses AI-enhanced hardware to upscale resolution by creating new frames and inserting them between already rendered GPU frames. This improves visual smoothness but can increase latency and input lag.
Both DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) aim to improve frame rates and reduce latency. FSR 3 with Fluid Motion is expected to bring AMD closer to competing with Nvidia’s Frame Generation technology, closing the gap in gaming frame rates.
Healthy competition between AMD and Nvidia benefits consumers by driving innovation and improving performance in the graphics card market. AMD’s release of FSR 3 in September will be a significant development in this ongoing competition.
