One day after an Amazon driver in Missouri died as a result of an alleged dog attack, several employees accuse the business of delivering an ill-timed, tone-deaf letter in response to the event. Vice News reported on Wednesday that some drivers got a “Dog Awareness” notice as a result of Tuesday’s event. The caution refers to dogs as “our four-legged clients” and “Fido,” implying that certain canines may be dangerous to the delivery staff.
The business informed Vice on Tuesday that it was collaborating with authorities to investigate the tragedy. “We’re extremely grieved by tonight’s unfortunate tragedy involving a member of our Amazon family,” the firm stated. “We’ll be giving assistance to the crew and the driver’s loved ones.”
One of the most frequent subjects of discussion among driver groups and subreddits has been the death of one of their colleagues due to a possible dog attack. Some drivers have asked for a walkout on October 31st, according to one post uncovered by Vice. “Amazon’s answer has been nothing short of disrespectful,” one commenter adds.
Amazon has regularly been chastised for its dubious reactions to worker safety issues. For example, after a 2020 investigation indicated that employees at the company’s most automated facilities were injured more often than their counterparts, Amazon announced that, rather than cutting productivity requirements, it would develop a health and wellness program.
