Alucard from Castlevania is now a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

A Super Smash Bros. Ultimate modder has created a playable version of Alucard, a fan favourite from the Castlevania series. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features characters from Nintendo’s game heritage and various third-party representatives from companies such as Capcom, Sega, and Konami. One of the announcements that excited many during the game’s release cycle was the inclusion of Simon Belmont and other Castlevania representatives, a series that many had hoped would be a part of the game for a long time. However, Alucard, who appeared in the game but was not playable, was one of the characters that fans felt would be better suited as a playable character.

Alucard made his debut in Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, where he is Trevor Belmont’s sidekick and Dracula’s son. He became a playable character in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which solidified his place in the series and influenced the Metroidvania/search-action game genre. However, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Alucard is an assist trophy and not a playable character.

This mod, currently in development by C# or CSharp, is built on Richter’s moveset and will include nods to Castlevania’s past. It will feature Alucard’s distinct moveset, such as his midair leap, which transforms his cloak into a pair of bat wings, and his reverse dodge, which resembles his legendary backlash from Symphony of the Night. Alucard’s major attacks include his sword or soul attacks, such as Hellfire, which launches three fireballs in a straight line, and his Up-Special, which transforms Alucard into a Bat.

Alucard’s Down-Special preserves Richter Belmont’s Holy Water, while his Side-Special references Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. This Side-Special enables him to enter Dark Metamorphosis, which heals Alucard every time he uses his blade to fight. This Dark Metamorphosis also improves his Special Attacks, such as transforming Hellfire into Dark Inferno. The mod will be available via early access in February and will have a general release later in the year according to CSharp. More information about the mod can be found on its GitHub page.
