Alpine Confirms Franco Colapinto for 2026, Extending Partnership With Pierre Gasly

Alpine announced on November 7 that Franco Colapinto will continue with the team through the 2026 season, securing continuity as Formula 1 enters a major reset year. The confirmation came at Interlagos ahead of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, a symbolic location given its proximity to Colapinto’s home country of Argentina.

The announcement date, 25/11/07, was highlighted by the team as a light nod to Colapinto’s race number, 43.

Executive advisor Flavio Briatore described the Gasly–Colapinto partnership as a meaningful blend of “experience, speed and youth.”

“I have followed Franco’s development in Formula 1 and believe he has the qualities and potential to become a top driver,” Briatore said. “Our decision to continue working together in 2026 demonstrates our strong commitment to supporting his development.”

A debut season that convinced the team

Colapinto stepped into Formula 1 earlier this year at Imola, replacing Jack Doohan. Since then, Alpine has praised his consistency, his rate of improvement and his ability to integrate with the technical group. The team believes that maintaining both drivers will help reduce variables as development pivots toward the 2026 chassis and power unit overhaul.

In its statement, Alpine emphasised his “steady improvement and future potential,” pointing at his adaptability and disciplined approach in sessions where the car has been difficult to manage.

Colapinto: “Proud to race with Pierre again”

Colapinto expressed gratitude and said that retaining his seat in Formula 1 is “a dream that requires proving yourself every weekend.”

“I’m grateful to Flavio and everyone on the team for believing in me,” he said. “From my debut, I knew how hard it would be to stay in this world, but I am proud to continue racing alongside Pierre. I have a lot to learn from him. He is a great teammate.”

He also spoke about the emotional significance of confirming the news in Brazil.

“It feels special to be making this announcement in a place so close to Argentina. Sharing this moment with fans here reminds me why we race. Next year will be a reset for F1, and we will work to bring smiles to all those who support us. Vamos Alpine!”

Stability for a critical season

With the 2026 regulations expected to dramatically alter the competitive order, Alpine is committing to continuity rather than starting over. Gasly brings experience. Colapinto brings potential. Together, they form the foundation the team hopes will help them move forward when the next generation of cars arrives.
