After a two-month vacation, free trials for Final Fantasy XIV will resume on February 22nd

Final Fantasy XIV will reintroduce its free trial on February 22nd, more than two months after Square Enix removed it in order to lessen player load following the massively successful Endwalker expansion. According to NME, the revelation comes from FFXIV’s latest Letter from the Producer Livestream, which took place over the weekend and included director and producer Naoki Yoshida.

For new players, Final Fantasy XIV offers a generous free trial period in which they can play the complete base game and the Heavensward expansion for as long as they want. Square Enix’s fervent social media promotion for the free trial has even become a joke in and of itself.

Endwalker may have been overly popular when it initially came out in December. The trial does not give you access to the most recent expansion. However, the game’s servers were unable to cope with the influx of players eager to try out the new content as well as a new influx of new players curious to see what all the fuss was about. Because of the enormous lineups, Square Enix had to temporarily suspend selling the game and remove the free trial in order to ensure that existing gamers could get in. While the game’s sales restarted in January, the free trial remained unavailable until now.
