It really boils down to just two words: “Reserve Yours.”
Acura has opened up reservations for its inaugural all-electric model – the brand-new 2024 Acura ZDX performance SUV and the high-performance ZDX Type S.
When it comes to competition, the ZDX is stepping into the ring with other electric luxury SUVs like the Genesis GV60, Tesla’s Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and the Lexus RZ.
Acura, known as Honda’s luxury brand, was born around the same time as its Japanese counterparts Nissan and Toyota developed their premium brands, Infiniti and Lexus, respectively.
While Honda was a bit slow to join the EV race, they’re now making up for lost time with an aggressive plan. The goal? Sell a whopping 2 million units annually by 2030 and transition exclusively to “zero-emissions” vehicles, including electric cars and hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles, by 2040.
Toshihiro Mibe, speaking to Reuters in March, acknowledged the personal challenge in this shift, saying, “I’ve been in the engine development business for more than 30 years, so personally it’s a little threatening. But I have to separate my own feelings from what is best for the business.”
