RuneScape reveals largest expansion ever for 25th Anniversary

Jagex announced updates for RuneScape during the RuneScape Ahead video premiere. This comes after players voted in November 2025 to remove the Treasure Hunter daily activity mechanic. Nearly 125,000 players took part in that vote. The change supports Jagex’s focus on player-first design and openness.

The Road to Restoration is a key part of the plans. It modernizes core systems to improve the player experience and make the game world of Gielinor more consistent. Updates cover the user interface, visual quality, combat styles, support for API plugins, game balance, daily content and Auras overhauls, and the Grand Exchange trading system.

In April, players get a full refresh of their character avatars. This includes new models, animations, hairstyles, and clothing options. Jagex will add more based on player feedback.

Havenhythe is the largest area expansion in RuneScape’s history. It launches in parts through 2026 with a vampiric theme. Players find new quests, early-game bosses, and a Hunter skill cap raise to 110. More story and bosses come later in the year.

Player Owned Houses see big changes too. Construction skill goes to 120. A new recipe system lets players build furniture tied to their achievements, adventures, and victories. This makes houses feel more personal.

Leagues II returns in autumn. The limited-time mode has tweaks from player feedback. It offers new overpowered relics, tasks, challenges, and rewards. Progression through tiers speeds up for quicker play.

RuneFest happens October 3-4, 2026, at the NEC in Birmingham, UK. It holds 6,000 fans for live reveals, developer talks, behind-the-scenes looks, and community events. Tickets go on sale in spring at runefest.com.

RuneScape plays on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android with cross-platform progress.
