Google has introduced a new experimental feature called AI powered configuration within the Search Console Performance report. The company stated that this update allows users to request a specific report through natural language instructions. Search Console then converts the request into the correct filters, metrics and comparison settings. Google confirmed that the tool is in an early stage and will not appear for all users immediately.
The feature works akin to most common AI driven assistants found in Google Ads and Google Analytics. Its purpose is to help users reach a configured report faster without manually selecting metrics or building filters. The system is designed to interpret the user’s question and return a corresponding setup inside the Performance report.
Google has specified the three primary tasks handled by the configuration tool. The first being metric selection. The system can choose among Clicks, Impressions, Average CTR and Average Position based on the user’s request. The second task is filter application. This includes narrowing data by search query, page URL, country, device type, search appearance or date range. The third task is comparison configuration. Users can request custom comparisons, including date based comparisons, without manually creating them.
The company stated that the rollout will be limited at first. Only a small group of websites will see the new feature, and expansion will occur gradually. Google also highlighted several limitations. The feature is only designed for configuration tasks and cannot sort tables, export data or perform actions outside of filtering and comparison adjustments. It is limited to the Performance report for Search results and is not available in Discover or News reporting. Google added that the system may sometimes interpret a request incorrectly. Users are encouraged to review automatically applied filters before drawing any conclusions.
This update is expected to introduce new ways for website owners and SEO professionals to work with search data. It may help users identify information that is harder to surface through manual filtering. Since availability is restricted during the initial rollout, many users will not see the tool at this stage. Google encouraged early testers to explore the feature to understand how AI assisted report configuration can support data review processes.
