How to enable cheats in Crusader Kings 3

Crusader Kings 3 is one of the best grand strategy games in the market today. The team at Paradox have crafted an engaging world where you have the choice between stepping into the shoes of a real life ruler and build on their dynasty, or create your own ruler and carve your own niche in the pages of history. Like most strategy games, Crusader Kings 3 puts you right in the middle of the action, where you must please your allies, try to befriend strategic foes, while also taking care of your people. There are lifestyle choice you have to make to drive your character down a particular path, and all of this requires resources.

There are variables like money, prestige, piety, and renown, that help you take certain actions through the course of your journey, and sometimes, it can be a bit daunting to collect these resources and you may feel the urge to indulge in some good old fashioned cheating, you know, just to get your character to the level you need, or maybe even take him/her from the depths of poverty to the richest and most renowned ruler in the world.

But how do you do it?

Well, one thing you need to understand is that Crusader Kings does not come with cheat codes per say, but there is something known as debug mode, which basically is like getting admin access to the backend of the game. It is like running the game like the developer, where you have complete access to all available actions for your character, even if he/she is not ready to take them. Mostly though, players have used this debug mode to gift their characters, a truck load of resources that makes in game progression faster.

Personally, whether to use the debug mode or not is purely your call, but this article will now veer towards those who have taken the decision to go ahead and give their game, a bit of a boost.

So, how does one enable the debug mode on Crusader Kings 3?

If you have purchased the game on Steam, this is what you can do –

Step 1. Open up the Steam app on your laptop.

Step 2. Click on the Library option on the home page. This will open up your game library.

Step 3. On the left-hand side of the Library page, right-click on the ‘Crusader Kings 3’ option.

Step 4. In the drop down menu that appears, click on the ‘Properties’ option.

Step 5. You will now see the game properties. Here under the launch options, type in ‘-debug_mode’.

Now, start the game as usual and once you load your save, simply press the ~ key on your keyboard and a debug menu will appear. It will look like a chat window that you can remove by pressing the ~ key again. But, in this chat window, you will be able to work your magic. Here are the commands you can use to boost your save –

  1. For desired money – cash [enter amount] and then press the enter key. For example, if you want to give your character 300,000 cash, type in cash 300000 and press the enter key.
  2. For desired prestige – prestige [enter amount]
  3. For desired piety – piety [enter emount]
  4. For desired renown – renown [enter amount]
  5. To speed up your army movement – quickmove
  6. To instantly construct facilities and upgrades – instabuild
  7. If you want the other character to agree with you on everything – yesmen

These are some of the commands I use to give my character an upgrade, but which of these you want to use, is totally up to you. Keep this in mind though – If your character dies in the game and you take over the successor, you will have to use the debug mode to gift this new character, the required resources, if you want to ofcourse.
