The Last Guardian’s production company has hinted that it would reveal its next project in 2023. Since its creator Fumito Ueda first teased it in 2018, GenDesign’s next project has been eagerly awaited. However, Ueda is renowned for his projects’ longer-than-anticipated development times. Fans have been waiting patiently since they knew GenDesign will provide additional details about its next game as soon as it was able to. That moment can be arriving quickly.
GenDesign’s existence may be brief—it was established in 2014 and has only produced The Last Guardian to this point—but its reputation dates back far further than that year. Fumito Ueda and Team Ico developed GenDesign. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, which were both created by Ueda and his crew and were released in 2001 and 2005, respectively, came before The Last Guardian. Then, it took almost ten years to complete The Last Guardian, with Ueda and Team Ico departing Sony to establish GenDesign.
