The 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix’s future is in doubt just 6 weeks before its scheduled date of February 10th. Concerns have emerged after the recent change in state government post the Telangana assembly elections.
The inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix was held earlier this year despite operational issues. The race was confirmed for 2024 back in October. However, Formula E has now released a statement expressing worries that the event may have to be cancelled following official communication from the new state government.
Formula E is seeking urgent clarification on the contractual commitments from the Government of Telangana regarding the race. Based on the letter received, Formula E is worried the E-Prix will not go ahead as planned in February.
With preparations in full swing just weeks before the event, Formula E, partners and suppliers have already made significant investments. Cancelling the race at the last minute would lead to major losses.
Formula E’s senior executives recently met the Telangana leadership to discuss the race but an outcome is still awaited. The championship is keen to avoid having to drop the Hyderabad E-Prix from the 2024 calendar at this late stage.
