2024 BMW X2 Unveiled: A Sleek Crossover with Enhanced Styling and Cutting-Edge Features

The Second-Generation X2: Bolder Design, Roomier Interior, and Advanced Technologies

BMW enthusiasts, the moment you’ve been eagerly waiting for has arrived. The all-new 2024 BMW X2 is ready to take the stage with fresh styling, an expanded range of technologies, and two compelling powertrain options. This captivating crossover is set to grace U.S. dealerships in March next year, offering an intriguing blend of sophistication and innovation.

The global public debut of the 2024 X2 is scheduled for the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, commencing on October 26, 2023. From the initial teaser campaign, it’s clear that BMW has set out to make a bold statement with this second-generation model.

As previously hinted in spy photos, the X2 retains its distinctive and coupe-like silhouette, where the roofline gracefully flows into the rear. The front end maintains an upright posture, and the flared wheel arches exude an air of confidence, resulting in a more mature appearance compared to its predecessor. Key design elements include model-specific headlights, a fresh interpretation of the rear lights, and an optional illuminated BMW kidney grille, distinguishing the X2 from its X1 sibling. Notably, the 2024 X2 becomes the first compact BMW to offer optional 21-inch wheels.

The body panels of the X2 are a testament to clean and uncluttered design, characterized by minimal dynamic lines and flush integrated door handles. The side window area adopts a refined take on the classic Hofmeister kink, contributing to an overall elegant profile. Shallow roof rails in black high gloss are available as an option. Dimensionally, the X2 has grown by 7.6 inches in length, measuring 179.8 inches in total, and its wheelbase is extended by 0.9 inches from the previous model.

Stepping inside the cabin, occupants will immediately notice the increased roominess compared to the previous X2. Rear seat passengers benefit from an extra inch of knee room, while the cargo area can now accommodate up to 25.3 cubic feet of cargo with all five seats in use. Fold down the second row, and a generous 51.7 cubic feet of storage space becomes available.

BMW has placed a strong emphasis on user interaction within the cabin, employing touch and voice control features. The BMW Curved Display, coupled with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant powered by the new BMW iDrive 9, plays a central role in this regard. This cutting-edge setup consists of a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.7-inch infotainment unit, seamlessly integrated behind a curved glass surface. The QuickSelect tool facilitates swift activation of selected functions, eliminating the need to navigate through submenus. Additionally, a cabin-facing camera is introduced as a new feature, allowing passengers to capture photos and record videos.

In terms of powertrains, the 2024 X2 comes to the United States with two compelling options. The base offering is the X2 xDrive28i, featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This powerplant enables the X2 to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.2 seconds. Opting for the X2 M35i xDrive brings a more potent 2.0-liter unit, generating 312 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, accelerating the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 5.2 seconds.

The X2 M35i’s engine has undergone several enhancements for improved performance, including a stronger crankshaft, optimized piston oil supply, and an M-specific exhaust system that adds a distinctive growl to the driving experience. Notably, the European version of the X2 M35i xDrive offers 296 hp due to emissions regulations.

Both X2 models come exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, showcasing electric actuation, a wider gear ratio spread, and improved internal efficiency. This transmission seamlessly shifts into Park when the engine is turned off, while an electric parking brake is automatically applied when parked on a slope. Additionally, the transmission features a mechanical limited-slip differential to maximize traction and enhance handling stability.

The global production of the new BMW X2 is set to take place at the company’s Regensburg plant, promising a thrilling driving experience and an elegant design for the discerning BMW aficionado.
