Kobo has announced the release of the waterproof Kobo Clara 2E to compete with the Kindle Paperwhite

The Kobo Clara 2E, the company’s first totally waterproof six-inch e-reader, will be released on September 22nd. However, you can preorder it through Kobo for $129.99 right now.

According to Kobo, the new e-reader is also the Rakuten-owned company’s first made from more than 85 percent recycled plastic, with ocean trash accounting for 10% of that. These adjustments are part of Kobo’s objective of offsetting 100% of the carbon emissions associated with shipping e-readers to consumers. Its magnet-free packaging is also claimed to be more eco-friendly, as it is made from FSC-certified recycled paper and printed with soy ink.

In terms of functionality, the new e-reader varies from its predecessor, the Clara HD, in that it supports Bluetooth audiobooks. It also has 16GB of internal storage, which is twice as much as the Clara HD. However, it, like the Clara HD, has a 6-inch display that, on paper, should be glare-free, and you can also minimize blue light exposure while reading late at night.

The waterproofing, Bluetooth compatibility, and more capacity, on the other hand, make the Kobo Clara 2E more competitive versus Amazon’s fantastic new Kindle Paperwhite. Both are waterproof, but the ad-supported Kindle Paperwhite costs $139.99 and only has 8GB of storage. Kobo, on the other hand, claims that their e-readers are ad-free, and the Kobo Clara 2E, as previously mentioned, has 16GB of storage. Furthermore, the Kindle Paperwhite has a bigger 6.8-inch display, which may or may not be a plus depending on your preferences.
