Zenfone’s Fate Hangs in the Balance: Asus Denies Termination, but Uncertainty Looms Over Its Future

Asus has unequivocally refuted recent rumors suggesting the demise of its popular Zenfone series, hinting at the prospect of an Asus Zenfone 11 successor and a new line of ROG Phones for 2024.

Speculation about the Zenfone series’ discontinuation surfaced on August 25, following reports of an “organizational restructure” at Asus that raised concerns about layoffs and the Zenfone 10 potentially being the last model in the lineup.

In response, Asus has released a concise press release to dispel these claims, categorically stating that rumors of the Zenfone 10 marking the end of the series and the shutdown of the Zenfone line are “not true.” The company reiterated its firm commitment to smartphones by affirming its intention to “continue our two main phone business product lines, the ROG Phone and the Zenfone.”

Furthermore, Asus tantalizingly teased the future by inviting us to “stay tuned for our 2024 product lineups,” indicating that a follow-up to the Zenfone 10, potentially named the Asus Zenfone 11, and a new generation of ROG Phones are in the pipeline for the coming year.

Supporting this revelation, an IMEI listing for the ROG Phone 8 series has recently emerged, as reported by GSMChina. This suggests that a lineup consisting of the ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and ROG Phone 8 Ultimate could be on the horizon, potentially debuting next year.

While leaks regarding a Zenfone 11 are currently absent from the rumor mill, it’s worth noting that the Zenfone 10 was only unveiled on June 29. Given that it offered an iterative upgrade, addressing some issues while introducing new challenges, there is room for improvement in the Zenfone series, particularly in areas like chipset choice and camera performance, as pointed out in a recent Asus Zenfone 10 review. Asus enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate what the next iterations of Zenfone and ROG Phones will bring to the table in 2024.
