Windows 10 Users Rejoice: Copilot AI Access Granted Despite Drawback

Microsoft’s Copilot, an AI assistant exclusive to Windows 11, will not be natively integrated into Windows 10 due to the OS being feature-locked. However, Windows 10 users will still get a taste of Copilot’s capabilities within the Microsoft Edge browser.

Referred to as ‘Copilot for Edge’ or ‘actions,’ this version of the AI assistant offers similar functionalities to its Windows 11 counterpart. While it is not integrated into the operating system, it serves as an additional feature within the Edge browser environment. Users can utilize Copilot for Edge to modify various settings, such as enabling virtual tabs or activating dark mode within the browser.

At its current early stage, the functionality of Copilot for Edge is limited, as it is undergoing testing with select users. The AI assistant will be integrated into the existing Bing AI sidebar in Edge, providing an expanded feature set for this part of the browser’s interface.

As with many new features, Microsoft is rolling out Copilot for Edge gradually, starting with a small audience to identify and address any potential issues. Notably, the implementation will support voice input, enabling users with microphones to interact with Copilot for Edge through direct voice instructions.

Users of Windows 10 can thus experience some of the capabilities of Copilot, albeit within the context of the Edge browser, as they await the full suite of features available in Windows 11.
