Video hosting platform Vimeo is joining the ranks of companies leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance the video editing process. Designed to address the common challenges faced by creators, Vimeo’s new AI tools aim to simplify video editing and make it more accessible to a wider audience.
Among the three new AI tools introduced, the text-based video editor stands out as particularly useful. With a single click, users can utilize this tool to automatically remove long pauses and filler words, such as “um” and “ah,” from their videos. Additionally, the tool generates a transcript of the video, allowing users to search for specific words and delete corresponding parts effortlessly. For those looking to create short clips for social media, the transcript search feature enables users to highlight and right-click on a word, sentence, or paragraph, and select “keep only this.”

Vimeo has also unveiled a script generator powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, integrated into its editing suite through an API. This tool generates a full script based on user-provided text prompts, desired video length, and selected tone (e.g., confident, funny, casual). By utilizing AI, Vimeo aims to streamline the scriptwriting process and offer a creative solution to users seeking assistance in developing compelling video narratives.
Furthermore, Vimeo has introduced an on-screen teleprompter feature designed to assist creators during video recording. Users can customize the font size and pacing of the displayed script, enabling them to maintain eye contact with the camera while staying on script.
Starting in July, all three AI-powered tools will be available to users subscribed to Vimeo’s Standard and Pro plans. During the seven-day trial period, users can test the tools, but ongoing access requires a minimum monthly subscription fee of $20 (billed annually).
