Red Bull’s dominant start to the 2023 Formula 1 season has ignited speculation about the team’s chances of completing an unbeaten campaign. However, Max Verstappen remains unperturbed by the outside noise, emphasizing the importance of focusing on each race weekend and maximizing results.
Red Bull has won all eight races so far, with Verstappen claiming victory in six of them (Bahrain, Australia, Miami, Monaco, Spain, Canada) and teammate Sergio Perez triumphing in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. The team currently holds a commanding 154-point lead over Mercedes in the Constructors’ standings, and Verstappen is well on course for his third consecutive Drivers’ title, boasting a 69-point advantage over Perez after a string of four successive wins.
The perfect start to the 2023 season has raised the possibility of Red Bull becoming the first team in Formula 1 history to win every race in a season. This achievement was previously approached by McLaren in 1988 when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost won 15 out of 16 races, narrowly missing out at Monza.
Despite the strong performances and the growing expectations surrounding Red Bull, Verstappen remains focused on the team’s internal dynamics and controllable factors. He emphasizes the importance of concentrating on what they can control within the team and with the car. Verstappen acknowledges that external factors can influence the outcome of a race, and therefore, maintaining their unbeaten streak is not solely in their hands.
Verstappen stated, “It doesn’t really matter what people are saying from the outside. You have to just focus on what you can control and that’s within the team and with the car, and that’s what we’re doing. Of course, we had a really good start to the year, and of course, we’d really like to keep that going, but sometimes it can also be a bit out of your hands what is happening throughout the weekend.”
With the Formula 1 season being long and demanding, Verstappen understands the need to maximize results at each race weekend. He remains grounded and determined to extract the best possible performance from himself and the team.
As Red Bull prepares for their home race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, they aim to continue their flawless start to the season. Verstappen, who has won the race on four occasions since 2018, including twice in the pandemic-affected 2021 campaign, has fond memories of the circuit. The 2019 race at the Red Bull Ring witnessed a memorable victory for Red Bull, marking their first win with engine partner Honda, achieved in dramatic circumstances by Verstappen.
As the team heads to Austria, Red Bull will rely on Verstappen’s expertise and determination to maintain their unbeaten streak, while he remains focused on maximizing results and keeping distractions at bay. The Austrian Grand Prix promises to be an exciting battle as Red Bull aims to continue their dominant form in front of their home crowd.
