According to data obtained from the Statistics Office of Uzbekistan, the country’s auto manufacturing sector has experienced a significant downturn in the first five months of 2023. The manufacturing quantity during this period recorded a steep decline of 49.4% compared to the previous year.
During the reporting interval, large enterprises in Uzbekistan produced approximately 340 buses. However, this figure represents a 9.6% decrease in bus production compared to the same period last year.
Analyzing the specific segments of the automotive industry, the data reveals that in January to May 2023, the country produced 39,264 Cobalt vehicles, showing a slight growth rate of 0.9% compared to the corresponding period in 2022. On the other hand, the production of Nexia T-250 vehicles witnessed a sharp decline of 78.7%, with only 1,992 units manufactured. Similarly, the production of Gentra vehicles decreased by 21%, totaling 27,961 units. Other notable declines include Spark vehicles (95.1% decrease), Damas vehicles (9.4% decrease), while specialized passenger vehicles experienced an 18.5% increase. Tracker and Opix vehicles saw production figures of 8,853 and 6,943, respectively.
In the broader scope of industrial production, enterprises in the Republic of Uzbekistan generated industrial goods valued at 231.2 trillion Uzbek som ($20.2 billion) between January and May 2023.
The decline in auto manufacturing highlights the challenges faced by the industry in Uzbekistan. Factors such as economic conditions, supply chain disruptions, and shifting market demands may have contributed to the decrease in production.
