Twitter hacker sentenced to five years in prison for crypto scam

The alleged teenage mastermind behind the Twitter breach, Graham Ivan Clark, pleaded guilty in 2021 and received a three-year prison sentence. In addition to O’Connor’s five-year imprisonment, he will also face three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. Furthermore, he is required to forfeit the $794,000 he acquired through fraudulent means during the hack.

The severity of the sentence reflects the gravity of O’Connor’s actions and sends a strong message regarding the consequences of engaging in cyber crimes of this nature. The 2020 Twitter hack not only compromised the privacy and security of numerous high-profile individuals but also shook public trust in online platforms and highlighted the vulnerabilities of major social media networks.
