In another indicator of the internal turmoil at Twitter, the company has canceled its Chirp developer conference, which was due to take place on November 16th. The business notified developers and other guests in a terse message that provided no explanation for the cancellation.
A Twitter spokeswoman refused to comment on the cancellation’s explanation. Only two weeks ago, members of the media were invited to register for Chirp. “Chirp is the first time we will bring our global developer community together in person to preview some new tools, discuss feedback, and celebrate the developers who are making it easier for people on Twitter to discover content, have safer conversations, and impact the greater good,” a Twitter spokesperson said at the time.
We’re currently hard at work to make Twitter better for everyone, including developers! We’ve decided to cancel the #Chirp developer conference while we build some things that we’re excited to share with you soon.

Given Musk’s recent acquisition of the firm, the cancellation isn’t especially surprising. In addition to shaking up the company’s leadership, he has promised to make big changes to the company’s subscription service, Twitter Blue, and adjustments to content moderation and other regulations. It’s hardly unexpected that he has a different vision for Twitter’s developer strategy.
However, the cancellation would most certainly upset Twitter’s engineers. Over the years, the corporation has had a rocky relationship with developers, but it has lately attempted to overhaul its developer platform with new APIs for academics and third-party applications. Chirp intended to be Twitter’s first live developer conference since 2015. The company’s ambitions for developers are now again murky, as are many other facets of Twitter under Musk.
