Sony isn’t simply using eco-friendly materials in its wireless earphones. The business now claims that multipoint audio capability will be added to its LinkBuds, LinkBuds S, and WF-1000XM4 models this autumn. This, like several competing buds, allows you to switch between two Bluetooth devices. You may, for example, switch to a phone conversation while viewing a video on your tablet.
The enhancement necessitates the installation of fresh software, which is accessible through Sony’s Headphones Connect app. The multipoint upgrade will be available for the LinkBuds family by November, while the WF-1000XM4 should be available this winter.
Sony began selling that model in mid-2021 and had not even hinted at a multipoint upgrade. While this isn’t much of a consolation if you possess inexpensive headphones like the WF-C500, it does assure that you won’t feel left out if you splurged on wireless audio in the last year.
At the very least, the improvement provides Sony an advantage over some of its competitors. While contenders like Apple’s AirPods series provide smooth audio switching, you’re typically tied to one brand’s environment. If you don’t want to be bound to certain platforms or goods merely to avoid wading through Bluetooth device settings, Sony’s multipoint capabilities may make more sense.
