The Pixel Fold Shines as Top Foldable, but Google Can Learn Software from Samsung’s Expertise

The landscape of Android phones has seen a shift in the balance between Google and Samsung. Historically, Google was known for making the best software, while Samsung excelled in hardware. However, recent developments have brought changes to this dynamic.

Google, with its Pixel phones, initially focused on offering inexpensive devices with a primary emphasis on its software rather than premium hardware. This strategy allowed them to be competitive in the market but didn’t position them as the best Android phones.

However, this changed with the launch of the Pixel 6 Pro, where Google stepped up its hardware game and offered a top-tier device, coming close to the best phones available. The company’s foray into foldable phones also led to the release of the Pixel Fold, which is considered the best foldable phone available.

The Pixel Fold’s aspect ratio on the cover display sets it apart from Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices. Google’s choice of a wider cover display makes apps and photos look better compared to Samsung’s slimmer and taller screen.

Additionally, Google didn’t compromise on the camera quality of the Pixel Fold, using the same camera as the Pixel 7a, and employing its software magic to enhance photo editing capabilities.

On the software front, however, Samsung maintains an edge with its Galaxy Z Fold 4. Samsung’s foldable offers better multitasking options and a more intuitive interface compared to Google’s Pixel Fold.

Despite the recent advancements, Samsung’s continued refinement and maturity in foldable devices give it an advantage over Google’s foldable software. As the market eagerly awaits the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the balance of power between the two companies in foldable hardware and software will be interesting to watch.
