According to a new Halo Waypoint blog post, Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries is aiming for a “late August” release date for the game’s long-awaited network co-op campaign mode. Staten also revealed that 343 is planning an open beta for Halo Infinite’s Forge functionality in September as part of a new roadmap contained in the post.
Co-op and Forge mode were stated months before Halo Infinite’s December release that they would not be available at launch. The developer then stated that campaign co-op will be released “alongside” season 2, but later pushed that date back to “later” in season 2.
Split-screen campaign co-op is even further away, allowing you to play the campaign with your buddies on the same TV. According to the roadmap, 343 Industries does not expect split-screen co-op to be available until sometime during the game’s third multiplayer season, which begins on November 8th. And it appears that estimate is still subject to change, since the roadmap states that split-screen co-release op’s date is “TBD.”
While it may be discouraging to learn that many of these features will have to wait a while longer, Staten underlined that the company is taking the time necessary to create the features at a pace that is appropriate for the team’s health. “We know we need to deliver more material and more features faster,” Staten explained. “Remaining true to priority zero requires us to slow down at times in order to stay healthy and move quicker afterwards.” Staten also mentioned that 343 intends to implement in-season quality-of-life enhancements in what it calls “Drop Pods.”
The second multiplayer season of Halo Infinite debuts on May 3rd, and it will include new maps and modes.
