Following a few months of intense conflict — including a live event starring a massive mech last night — the latest season of Fortnite is unexpectedly laid-back. Season 3 of the game’s third chapter is simply titled Vibin’. It brings some noticeable improvements to the island, such as a new amusement park with a rollercoaster and a trippy-looking forest called Reality Falls, which offers magical saplings that players may plant and grow for better treasure.
In terms of gameplay, the season brings back a fan-favorite vehicle, the Baller (which looks a bit like a giant hamster ball). It has been slightly modified, however: it now has greater health, can float on water, and has a battery that will ultimately die. It also looks like you can ride the rollercoaster with one. Players may now ride on boars, while season 3 adds a new element dubbed “storm sickness.”
A new season, of course, implies a new battle pass to buy, which means more characters to unlock. Darth Vader (who would make an excellent pair partner for Obi-Wan) is the season’s highlight, but there’s also a new toy-like figure called Snap that you can customize by unlocking extra limbs. Later in the season, battle pass users can unlock Indiana Jones, who seems oddly out of place next to this season’s considerably more colorful group.
The new season follows Resistance, which was famous for introducing Fortnite’s now-permanent Zero Build option — but players can still play the old build-and-shoot game if they like.
