Apple’s Music Recognition feature in the iPhone Control Center can now sync with the Shazam app’s current version (15.14) and across Apple devices using the same Apple ID. According to MacRumors, many users assumed that the feature required the iOS 16 developer beta, but it is already available for iPhones running iOS 15.
Following the announcement of its acquisition of Shazam in 2017, Apple released Music Recognition as a built-in iOS feature in 2020 with iOS 14.2. The functionality allowed iPhone users to recognize songs in their surroundings and in apps without having to download the Shazam app. If you ask Siri or use the Music Recognition control to help you discover a song, you can now save it in the Shazam app if you have it downloaded so you may listen to it later.
Another useful feature is that it remembers music identified with the Music Recognition capability across devices that use the same Apple ID. Until today, the only way to keep that information across devices was to download the Shazam app and identify music there. Another option was to link your Shazam and Apple Music apps and create a playlist of Shazam songs that were identified across many devices over time. However, if you don’t want to download another app and just want to see your tunes in one location, this could be beneficial.
You may learn how to add the Music Recognition capability to your device without using the Shazam app here. If you want to see the tunes you’ve Shazammed, you may do so by pressing and holding the Music Recognition button in the Control Center (once you’ve added it).
