The Android Auto app from Google can inform you if your USB cord is faulty

Android Auto’s latest update includes a diagnostic feature that checks to see if your USB cable or port is functioning properly. The utility, dubbed “USB Startup Diagnostics,” appears to examine whether a USB cable connects and the cable’s quality. Google suggests connecting to your automobile with the cable that came with your phone or a cable that is less than three feet long and does not “include USB hubs or cable extensions” on a support website.

Having the proper cable, on the other hand, maybe easier said than done. USB cables come in a wide range of qualities, making it difficult to determine which ones meet the required standards for Android Auto support. Additionally, you cannot assume that the cable that comes with your phone will function with Android Auto, as the majority of newer phones come with USB-C connections, but few cars come equipped with USB-C ports. Hopefully, this diagnostic tool will assist you in determining whether you require a different cable.

The tool is available in Android Auto 7.5.121104 – if you don’t currently have that version, you may wish to check for available updates. Rahman observed in a Twitter direct message that if the option is enabled, it may be found under Android Auto’s settings > Connection help > USB starting diagnostics. It’s worth mentioning that Google occasionally rolls out things in stages, so if you don’t see the diagnostic tool right away, you may simply have to wait for it to become accessible.
