The ad-supported subscription for Disney Plus will be available in December

The ad-supported version of Disney Plus will cost $7.99 per month — the same as the ad-free plan — and will be accessible starting December 8th, according to the company. On the same day, the ad-free plan will be increased to $10.99 per month.

The ad-supported plan isn’t surprising; Disney said earlier this year that it will be available in late 2022. Netflix is also aiming to offer its own ad-supported tier, albeit it won’t be available until early 2023. When Netflix’s tier becomes accessible, it will not include everything at first. We don’t yet know whether the same limits will apply if you choose the Disney Plus ad tier.

When the ad tier goes live, it will have “reduced ad load and frequency to provide a terrific experience for viewers,” according to Disney CEO Bob Chapek during the company’s third-quarter results conference on Wednesday. According to earlier this year’s rumors, Disney intends to restrict commercial breaks to four minutes each hour. Disney will also not run advertising on children’s accounts, according to CFO Christine McCarthy on the call. In 2023, the business plans to extend the ad tier abroad.

You won’t be able to purchase the Disney Plus ad tier on an annual basis unless you pay extra for no advertisements. The yearly membership fee will increase from $79.99 to $109.99.
