So, you won’t believe what the Tesla Cybertruck can do beyond its bulletproof design. Lars Moravy, Tesla’s VP of auto engineering, spilled the beans on Jay Leno’s show about this cool feature called “wade mode.” Basically, it lets the Cybertruck drive through more than two feet of water.
Tesla came up with a nifty thing called a “Scuba Pack” to make it happen. This pack pressurizes the battery, allowing the Cybertruck to tackle rivers and smaller bodies of water. All you gotta do is hit a button to activate wade mode. Just a heads up, though—it takes about 10 minutes to kick in, and you’ve got a 30-minute time limit.
But Elon Musk, being Elon, has bigger plans. He mentioned on X that Tesla will roll out a “mod package” that turns the Cybertruck into a boat, capable of cruising at least 100 meters on water. No word from Tesla yet on the details or when it’s happening.
Musk thinks it’s as easy as upgrading cabin door seals to make the Cybertruck a water-roaming beast. According to Moravy, the Cybertruck “almost floats,” and if you’re feeling adventurous, you could even hook up an outboard motor, turn it on from your screen, and go boating.
This whole amphibious car thing isn’t entirely new, though. Back in the ’60s, there was the Amphicar Model 770, and it was a hit. Now, we’ve got electric contenders like the Watercar EV and the Atlas EV joining the aquatic party. How cool is that?
