Environmental groups in the area have protested the factory’s water use and potential harm to wildlife, which has caused the factory’s construction to be postponed multiple times. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has stated that the Gigafactory will use “very little” water and that the forest that was removed prior to the plant’s construction was “not a natural forest” because it was only cultivated to create cardboard.
