Teenage Racer Dilano van ‘t Hoff Dies in Crash at Spa-Francorchamps

Dilano van ‘t Hoff, the 2021 Spanish F4 Champion and MP Motorsport racer, has tragically passed away following a multi-car crash at Spa-Francorchamps. The 18-year-old Dutch driver was involved in the crash on the Kemmel Straight during the second race of the Formula Regional European Championship event at the circuit.

A statement from the championship organisers confirmed the devastating news: “Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine sadly announces the death of MP Motorsport driver Dilano Van ‘T Hoff. The incident happened during Spa-Francorchamps race 2. We want to express our sincere condolences to the family, team, and friends.”

The Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, and SRO Motorsports Group also expressed their deepest condolences to the driver’s family, team, and friends.

The fatal accident bears resemblance to a previous incident that claimed the life of Formula 2 racer Anthoine Hubert at the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix, which occurred at the preceding corner on the circuit.

Van ‘t Hoff made his debut in single-seater racing in 2021, finishing as the runner-up to Enzo Trulli in the Formula 4 UAE winter series before dominating the following year’s Spanish F4 series. He then moved up to the Formula Regional by Alpine championship with the MP Motorsport team, with whom he had achieved the F4 title.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his sadness and condolences, saying, “We are so sad to learn of the passing of Dilano van ‘t Hoff today at Spa-Francorchamps. Dilano died in pursuit of his dream to reach the pinnacle of motorsport. Along with the entire motorsport community, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
