Kyocera Corporation reported a successful demonstration of underwater wireless optical communication technology achieving data speeds of 5.2Gbps over short ranges in a freshwater lab setup. The system uses custom optical components to transmit high-resolution video and sensor data for underwater vehicles and research tools.
Google has outlined Project Suncatcher, a plan to deploy compact AI data centers in low Earth orbit. The system would rely on near-continuous solar exposure, high-bandwidth optical networking, and radiation-tolerant TPUs. Its success now depends on real-world testing, cost trends, and long-term reliability.
