Astronomers have identified a star system that meets key conditions needed to test the technologies required to directly image Earth-sized planets in Earth-like orbits around Sun-like stars. This finding supports efforts to refine coronagraph instruments and observation strategies. Visible light imaging of such worlds remains a technical challenge but recent results bring that goal closer.
