The Million Veteran Program: A Treasure Trove of Genetic Data

At the heart of this research lies the Million Veteran Program (MVP), a biobank maintained by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). MVP is one of the largest and most diverse genetic databases globally, encompassing individuals from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. Notably, 29% of the MVP cohort includes individuals with ancestries tied to African, Admixed American, and East Asian populations. This diversity addresses a critical gap in genetic research, which historically has focused predominantly on individuals of European descent.
