We have been reading about Samsung’s smart glass project for a long time, and every time there is a product event, we hoped to see the product make its debut, but we were always left wanting. However, it now looks like Samsung has turned its attention this project and it seems that the product may be called Samsung Glasses.
The sudden turn to this product may be triggered by the gradual inflow of smart glasses in the market. RayBan recently collaborated with Meta on their new smart glasses and they have been getting an overwhelming response in the market. Samsung already has an ecosystem in place, and now would be the perfect time for them to bring in their smart glasses to put a dent in the market. Add to that, Apple is focussing their attention on their Vision Pro device, which means a smart glass project may not really be their priority at the moment.
Reliable sources on the internet have pointed out that Samsung has filed to register the trademark ‘Samsung Glasses’ in the UK. According to the filing, the trademark will be applicable to the following category of products – VR Headsets, augmented reality headsets, headphones, smartphones, and smart glasses.
Obviously, Samsung could always release a VR headset or AR headset and call them Samsung Glasses, but it just doesn’t sound right. Smart glasses known as Samsung Glasses just make sense, don’t you think?
Samsung had earlier confirmed that they are working on an XR headset as a rival to the Apple Vision Pro, which means that these ‘Samsung Glasses’ will most probably stand for their smart glasses offering. Now, how soon could we see an announcement for this device? There is no official date here, but we do have the S24 launch event coming up soon, so we shall see with our fingers crossed.
