Samsung confirms a hack, alleging that a portion of the Galaxy’s source code was stolen

Samsung revealed that it was hacked last week, a breach that resulted in the theft of internal business data and source code for the Galaxy smartphone software. The company asserts that no personal data was compromised (either employee or customer) and that safeguards have been implemented to prevent future breaches.

Samsung did not name the perpetrators, but it appears to be LAPSUS$, the same hacking group that stole confidential information from Nvidia last week.

On Friday, the group’s Telegram channel shared a 190GB torrent including supposedly the source code for the bootloader and biometric identification mechanisms on Galaxy devices.

“A security compromise occurred involving sensitive internal company data. Our initial analysis indicates that the breach involves some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices, but not personal information about our consumers or employees. At the moment, we see no impact on our business or customers. We have taken steps to prevent future mishaps and will continue to provide uninterrupted service to our clients,” a Samsung official wrote.
