Samsung actually patented a teardrop hinge way back in 2016, but we don’t know why they haven’t decided to use it until now. Some Samsung experts think that Samsung might have been waiting to bring an IPX8 water resistance rating to the new display, which they first introduced on their third-gen folding devices in 2021. This could give Samsung’s folding phones an edge over the competition like Oppo’s Find N2 and the Motorola Razr, which aren’t rated for water resistance.
