After his solid recovery drive to P3 in the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez is now determined to be ever-present on the podium for the rest of the 2023 Formula 1 season. While P9 on the grid in Hungary was not ideal, Perez was able to cut through the field and secure a podium finish, joining his teammate Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris on the podium.
Although Perez’s title aspirations are no longer realistic, his main goal is to secure the runner-up spot in the Drivers’ standings and help Red Bull achieve their first one-two finish. If he can consistently be on the podium for the remaining 11 races, it will significantly boost his chances of achieving that second-place position.
Perez sees this performance as a confidence booster and is looking forward to maintaining strong performances in every race going forward. While he came close to securing P2 in Hungary, traffic and pick-up on the tires caused him to lose some time, but he still considers P3 to be an excellent result.
During the race, Perez had a hard-fought battle with Oscar Piastri in the McLaren. Although the stewards noted the exchange, they determined that Perez did not force Piastri off the track, and both drivers agreed that it was hard racing but fair.
With his P3 finish, Perez was able to extend his lead over Fernando Alonso in the Drivers’ Championship, with a gap of 32 points now separating them.
