Gaming giant Razer is reportedly dealing with another potential data breach that has resulted in company and customer data being offered for sale on a hacker forum. The stolen data, priced at $100,000 worth of Monero cryptocurrency, includes encryption keys, database information, and login credentials related to Razer.com and its products.
According to a Razer spokesperson, the company’s team is currently conducting a comprehensive review of all its websites and taking necessary measures to secure its platforms. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
The breach seems to have exposed user data related to Razer’s hardware products, gaming laptops, monitors, peripherals, and services offered to registered users, such as access to games, rewards, and offers. Screenshots shared as evidence show lists of files, email addresses, source code for anti-cheat systems in online games, and Razer Gold balances, the company’s virtual credit for its users.
BleepingComputer, a technology news and cybersecurity website, claims to have verified the authenticity of the leaked user accounts. As a precautionary measure, Razer has reset all user accounts, requiring users to log in again and change their passwords.
This is not the first time Razer’s data security has been compromised. In 2020, a researcher discovered that a Razer database containing personally identifiable information (PII), such as email and physical addresses, was publicly accessible. However, it is unclear if any unauthorized individuals gained access during that incident.
The latest data breach appears to involve more recent data, leading to the belief that the two incidents are unrelated. Razer has expressed its intention to report the matter to relevant authorities once the investigations are complete. For any questions or concerns, customers can reach out to [email protected].
As the investigation unfolds, Razer is likely to enhance its data protection measures to safeguard user information and prevent future breaches. Users are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow any security instructions provided by Razer during this process.
