When it comes to utilising AI, there are two kinds – Benign and Nefarious. While general users have celebrated ChatGPT by creating their own GPTs to fulfil critical demands, there are threat actors who are using ChatGPT to fulfil their nefarious intentions.
One such ChatGPT powered info stealer, known as Predator AI, is the newest cyber threat, which has been built to target Cloud services. It is currently being circulated on Telegram, and researchers have warned users to stay vigilant while interacting with files shared on the messaging platform.
The main goal of Predator AI, is to make it easy to attack applications like WordPress and ASW SES, and as per researchers, its code overlaps to a great degree with that of AlienFox and Legion, which are well known cloud spammer tools.
When the developers of Predator AI were confronted about their tool, they were clear that the intention behind creating this was purely educational, and that they have other agenda in mind. However, Predator AI is being actively developed and cybersecurity experts should keep a watchful eye on the same.
“While Predator AI is likely somewhat functional, this integration does not substantially increase an attacker’s capability,” the researchers explain. “The feature has not yet been advertised on the actor’s Telegram channel, and there are likely many edge cases that make it unstable and potentially expensive.”
In order to stay safe from Predator AI, researchers have advices companies to keep their systems up to date, something that is being overlooked a lot by organisations around the world. They also recommend deploying logging and detection mechanisms that can help detect suspicious activity on the cloud, before it manifests into something more dangerous.
