Windows 11 Widgets to Get New Feature: Pinnable Widgets

Pinnable widgets are the latest feature coming to Windows 11

Microsoft is reportedly making further strides in its efforts to integrate widgets into Windows 11, with plans to allow users to pin widgets directly onto their desktop. Renowned leaker Zac Bowden, known for his insights on Windows Central, has shared insider information from sources within Microsoft, indicating that this feature will aim to enhance widget engagement by keeping them in constant view on the desktop.

By bringing widgets out of the confinement of the widgets panel, which is currently accessed from the taskbar, Microsoft hopes to increase their utility and visibility for users. While the exact timeline for this development remains unclear, Bowden highlights that Windows 11’s widgets will receive dedicated attention at Microsoft’s upcoming Build 2023 conference in May. This suggests that the company may unveil details about this feature during the event, potentially signaling its imminent testing phase.

This latest revelation comes on the heels of Microsoft’s recent introduction of a new widget in testing, most notably Facebook. If speculations about the timeline hold true, users can expect the ability to place widgets on the desktop to arrive later this year.

The focus on widgets is becoming increasingly apparent within Microsoft, with ongoing testing bringing notable changes to both the widget system and the File Explorer. Developers are being actively encouraged by Microsoft to incorporate widgets into their applications, indicating the company’s dedication to expanding widget functionality.

Interestingly, Bowden had previously mentioned the idea of moving widgets onto the desktop in March, suggesting ongoing progress and consideration of the concept within Microsoft.

For those who find widgets beneficial, this additional functionality of having them directly on the desktop would prove highly convenient. However, for those who do not use widgets, they can simply disregard them, as widgets will not automatically appear on the desktop.

This development brings Windows 11’s widgets closer to resembling the beloved gadgets that were present in Windows 7. As Microsoft continues to refine its operating system, the integration of desktop widgets promises to enhance user experience and productivity.
