Philips Hue is set to face the IKEA test

So far, Philips Hue is one of the best smart lighting solutions in the market. The range of lighting devices and customisations available are second to none, and today, when people say smart lighting, the solution is Philips Hue. However, it looks like they are about to face some competition from IKEA, which has announced a brand new smart LED strip in the Netherlands, and looking at the aggressive pricing, it gives us the impression that a global launch of this strip could make Philips and TP-Link sweat.

The smart LED strip, which has been named Ormanäs, is like any other smart lighting strip. It can be set to white or any colour on the RGB spectrum. It is dimmable as well, but you cannot address each LED individually. This means that you cannot have a mix-and-match adventure, the entire strip will take on one single colour at a time. Users will be able to control the LED strip either through the Styrbar remote control or IKEA’s Home Smart app. If you happen to have an IKEA Dirigera smart hub, you can use it to control the LED strip as well.

The Ormanäs LED strip measures 13 inches in length, but you can always cut it down to the required length. As far as the pricing is concerned, IKEA has priced this LED strip at $32, which is quite reasonable. At the moment, it is only available in the Netherlands, but you can expect a worldwide launch soon.
