Peloton is simplifying the process of closing Apple Watch rings. The firm announced today the addition of an Apple Watch interface to the original Bike, Bike Plus, and Tread.
According to a Peloton blog, users will be notified via the Peloton watch app whenever they begin a lesson on the Bike, Bike Plus, or Tread. This also applies to classes initiated via the app. Additionally, users can select to initiate workout recording on their own. When activated, the Apple Watch can also function as a heart rate monitor, allowing you to display your Strive Score in Peloton. The Strive Score is a measure that indicates the number of times users spend in a particular heart rate zone. Additionally, it will simplify the process of logging Peloton workouts on Apple’s Activity app.
However, the integration is not automatic. You must complete a one-time setup process. To begin, ensure that the Peloton app is installed on both your phone (or tablet) and Apple Watch. Open the Peloton app on your phone and tap the “More” tab from there. “Apple Watch” is selected, followed by “Set Up” and “Connect to Health app.” This should then launch the Health application. Allow whatever health permissions you’re comfortable with — having in mind that denying certain metrics may impair the integration’s performance. Return to the Peloton app and tap “Done.” Finally, select “Allow” when the Apple Watch software requests notification permissions.
While this may seem excessive, it is very standard when integrating a fitness app with Apple Health. Additionally, this is not the first time we have seen this type of feature. This is comparable to how GymKit, Apple’s proprietary fitness API, enables the Apple Watch to record workouts on NFC-enabled exercise equipment. Additionally, the ability to begin recording from your wrist is reminiscent of Apple’s own Fitness Plus service.
