Another well-known indie game is now accessible on Netflix. Netflix said today at its Tudum event that the spooky thriller Oxenfree, which debuted in 2016, is now available on its nascent gaming service. Oxenfree for Netflix is a free download for Netflix users on both iOS and Android, and it includes subtitle compatibility for over 30 languages.
Netflix has slowly added outstanding games to its mobile gaming portfolio, such as Into the Breach, Before Your Eyes, and Lucky Luna, but Oxenfree stands out since Netflix purchased its creator, Night School Studio, last year. With its emphasis on narrative and a tone that would appeal to Stranger Things viewers, Oxenfree seems to be a solid match for Netflix. A sequel is also being planned.
In other news, Netflix has revealed two new games that will be available on September 27th: Monument Valley studio Ustwo created Spongebob: Get Cooking and Desta: The Memories Between. Other “coming soon” games include a mobile version of the critically renowned Kentucky Route Zero and a baking game based on the Netflix series Nailed It.
Netflix began its push into gaming late last year, however, early indications indicate that it has failed to gain traction with the bulk of members.
