The app was opened to a beta test recently, and testers were quick to note that this ‘workaround’ messenger app actually had a lot of issues to address internally. Firstly, Sunbird uses HTTP, not HTTPS, which is the modern standard. Also, the Nothing Chats app did not feature end to end encryption, which it claims to have. Attachments sent via the app could be access in plain text, which in itself is reason enough to pull a product from the market.
The developers were quick to pull the app from the Play Store and also issued a public apology and promised to make things right, which looks unlikely as there is still no sweet spot between RCS and iMessage, which is why Apple themselves have given themselves an year to sort things out with the GSMA before they can bring RCS support on their iPhone lineup.
