Nintendo’s Russian eShop has been temporarily forced into maintenance mode, according to a notification on the company’s Russian website, which appears to suggest that users in the nation would be unable to purchase digital titles from the shop.
In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many gaming businesses have taken action. Sales of EA and CD Projekt Red games have been halted in Russia and Belarus. All new sales of “Microsoft products and services” in Russia have been halted, a phrase that appears to cover Xbox hardware and software. And, according to Eurogamer, Sony has allegedly banned Gran Turismo 7, a major title in its 2022 lineup, from sale in Russia – I couldn’t find the game on the Russian PlayStation Store when I searched for it. A request for a response from Sony has yet to be responded to.
The sanctions against Russia continue and it looks like the gaming sector is coming down hard on the citizens of the country, making it impossible for one of the largest gamer markets to have access to content and their favorite games.
