New iMac or Another Mac Model: Apple’s Mystery Product Launch Expected in Late October

Mark Gurman Hints at the Possibility of a New iMac or Mac-Centered Product Launch This Month

As October progresses, rumors are swirling in the tech world about an impending Apple product launch, with much speculation focused on whether it will be a new iMac or another Mac model. While the details remain somewhat uncertain, respected Apple leaker Mark Gurman suggests that Apple is gearing up for a significant product reveal, possibly an iMac, toward the end of October.

Gurman previously hinted at a new iMac about six months ago, and he reaffirms this speculation in his latest newsletter for Bloomberg. He indicates that a new 24-inch iMac might make its debut on either October 30 or 31, right before Apple’s earnings announcement scheduled for November 2. However, Gurman also conveys some uncertainty about whether it will indeed be the iMac that takes the stage. Nonetheless, he is confident that a “Mac-centered product launch” is on the horizon for the closing days of October.

One key detail missing from the rumor mill is the chip that will power the rumored iMac. The expectation is that it will continue to utilize the M2 chip, as Gurman does mention the M3 chips, but solely in the context of their potential inclusion in the next-gen MacBook Air in 2024. This implies that the iMac may not feature the M3 chip, and recent rumors also suggest a relatively modest upgrade with the iMac 24-inch primarily running on M2 chips.

Interestingly, Gurman doesn’t rule out the possibility of MacBook Pro refreshes arriving later in October. Apple is reportedly “making headway” on new 14-inch and 16-inch models. However, Gurman acknowledges that it would be somewhat unusual to have another round of revamping for the MacBook Pro in the same year, considering that refreshed versions were released at the beginning of 2023. Nevertheless, he notes that while unusual, it’s “not inconceivable.”

In summary, Apple enthusiasts and tech aficionados can anticipate an exciting product launch at the end of October, with a focus on whether it will bring a new iMac or another Mac model to the forefront of Apple’s offerings.
