Microsoft receives Oracle support for AI innovation

Microsoft, one of the leaders in AI innovation today, have announced a multi-year partnership with Oracle, in which, the Redmond giant will use its Azure cloud infrastructure, along with Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, to make Bing search even more powerful. The company will use both the AI infrastructures for the inferencing of AI models, which will help Bing get better at conversational searches.

Now, you may be thinking – Microsoft and Oracle are rival companies, especially in the cloud space, why then have they decided to partner up?

When you think about it, Microsoft’s market share in the cloud services market stands at 23%, while Oracle’s is not even half of that, which is why neither of the parties stand to lose anything. Microsoft will leverage Oracle’s cloud services to make Bing better, while Oracle will use Microsoft’s clout in the market to leapfrog their competitors. Right now, it looks like a win-win situation for both companies and we are sure to see big AI innovations coming from Microsoft in the coming future.

When asked about this new partnership, Microsoft’s global head of marketing for Search & AI, Divya Kumar, said: “Our collaboration with Oracle and use of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure along with our Microsoft Azure AI infrastructure, will expand access to customers and improve the speed of many of our search results.”

Karan Batta, SVP for OCI, added: “By furthering our collaboration with Microsoft, we can help bring new experiences to more people around the world.”

It is not known how long this partnership will last, or how much custom Microsoft will give Oracle, but one thing is for sure, the AI world will never be the same again.
