Microsoft Outlook Removes Attachment Size Limit by Integrating with OneDrive

Microsoft Outlook is addressing one of the most common user frustrations by removing the attachment size limit and improving the experience of sending large files.

In an effort to streamline the process, Microsoft Outlook has launched an update that eliminates the longstanding limit on attachment sizes when sending emails. Instead, when users attempt to attach a large file that may exceed the maximum size limit, Outlook will now seamlessly integrate with Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage platform to ensure a smoother sharing experience.

Microsoft recently detailed this update on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, explaining that when users encounter the attachment size limit, the update will prompt them to upload the file to OneDrive, allowing the document to be easily shared.

Initially, Android users will be the first to benefit from this new feature, with the rollout already underway. However, users on other platforms can likely expect to receive this enhancement in the near future.

This update comes as a valuable addition for users of the free version of Microsoft Outlook who may have encountered challenges following a change to the platform’s storage arrangements earlier this year. Since February 2023, Microsoft has been implementing a change that affects free users, as attachments are now stored within OneDrive, which offers a smaller free storage capacity of 5GB compared to the free 15GB allowance previously offered by Outlook.

As a result of this storage migration, many users have experienced disruptions in their email service, as their backlog of attachments suddenly exceeded capacity, rendering them unable to send or receive new emails. The integration with OneDrive aims to resolve this issue and provide a more seamless and efficient experience for all users.
